Searches are up on AOL Search lately for diet pills. Being as it is summer, that is no surprise, but there is also a new pill on the market making a ton of buzz. The Alli diet pill was released recently and they have been selling out all over the nation. The pill is an over-the-counter version of pill, Xenical, which is an FDA-approved prescription drug.
The premise of the pill is that it is a "fat blocker." I don't know what a fat blocker is, but it kind of sounds like a made-up buzz word to me. This "fat blocker" prevents fat from being absorbed into the gastrointestinal tract. The pill also comes along with instructions for a change in diet and exercise when you purchase it.
Now, I don't know if it is just me, but it seems that a change in diet and exercise alone would make you slim down ... so why do you even need the pill? Also, are people really going to take advice on their diet from GlaxoSmithKline? My last question is if this fat blocker is really blocking absorption, then where is the fat going?
Have you tried the Alli pill? Let me know what you think about it.

I started Alli on Friday. I am watching what I eat and lets see what happens. So far I have not had any messes, but again I am watching what I eat. Good luck to all that is trying to lose the weight.

I'm just wondering-if alli is only 60 mg per caplet and Xenical is/was 120, then i might spend another year trying to lose weight.
i don't think alli is strong enough. alli says take no more than 3 per day. I was taking xenical 3x a day @120 mg. positive results thus far, but I don't know how I'm gonna make it at 60 mg 3x a day w/ alli..........

This is going to sound disgusting, but DO NOT and I repeat, DO NOT FART while taking these pills unless you're hovering over the toilet. I shouldn't have to go into detail about this one.

I took Xenical for 6 months a few years ago and lost 40 pounds. The side effects can be bad, if you don't watch what you eat. I did NOT put the weight back on and I intend to go back on it. It does work and it is safe. I liked it a lot, but you do have to be careful what you eat.

DONT EAT ANY FATTY FOODS OR U WILL BE SORRY BASED ON MY EXPERIENCE WIH XENICAL. IT HELPS U CHANGE YOUR EATING HABITS AFTER THE FIRST ACCIDENT WITH THE OILY DISCHARGE. SO DISGUSTING!

I agree with comment #19.
Some of us are truly addicted to food (much like a drug).
I have been clean and sober (active in an ongoing recovery program) for almost 18 years. I quit smoking 13 years ago, and have even been caffiene-free for almost 2 years.
I've also tried scores of diets, undergone years of therapy, and applied 12-step recovery to my food/eating-related issues over and over again for many years now, all to no avail -- I guess mostly because it's impossible to fully abstain from food.
So, I finally talked with 2 doctors about lap-band surgery, and both recommended trying this method first.
If you're not an addict, then you're not going to understand -- but it certainly does not have a thing to do with laziness or a lack of effort.
I started on the pills last week (so of course I can't speak for the long haul), but I can report that knowing what the consequences will be, if I waiver from the food plan, is thusfar keeping me on track.
I have had absolutely no (as they are referred to) treatment effects and find the eating plan to be one I truly believe I can live with -- very reasonable, without having to feeling deprived. This is mostly because the allowable 45 fat grams of fat a day is a more generous allotment than in any other diet I've ever tried.
I lost 3 pounds in the first 3 days and am, for the first time in many many moons, feeling hopeful that I just may have stumbled upon a non-surgical, non mind or mood altering option to what is no doubt my greatest problem in life.

i love the people who say the don't over eat and go to they gym 2-3 hours a day and are still over weight. it is the dumbest thing i've ever heard. first of all you can't gain weight without eating excess calories. second of all you should know that being at the gym for more than an hour without proper nutrition is bad for you and can inhibit any gains that you should see. and walking on a treadmill and doing really light weights isn't going to do a damn thing.

How much does this cost? I will not have any stains because I wear a Maxi-pad for urine leakage anyway.

It appears that we are going to be seeing a lot of people "brown bottoms" running around looking for the nearest bathroom or outhouse. If you want real success with safe food fat replacement technology and appetitie control capsules, then take a look at the products at www.ztrim.com. I use them and they really work. I think that you will be surprised at the potential for this new legitimate technology.

if you're already cutting down on fatty foods and grease due to the side effects, why do you need to take this pill to lose weight? HINT: you are losing weight due to cutting down on these things!!
By erin on Jun 18th 2007 at 5:06PM
I've tried it since Friday, and I'm not having any problems. Read and follow the instructions. If you're going to have a meal with more than the recommended amount of fat - don't take it prior to that meal.

alli really works its is the perfect pill for the stay at home person as for the working people dont eat any fatty food at all!! unless you put tissue paper so you wont leak on yourself. i will take it on the weekends and that will help a bit.

#69.. you take the pill if you DO eat fatty foods.. this pill only causes any FAT you eat to leave your body instead of being absorbed.. not if you want to stay away from fat... this pill is only if you eat greasy foods and dont want to pack away all of that fat youre eating. there is no need to take the pill if you avoid fattening foods.. READ THE PAMPLET

I TOOK XENICAL FOR A WHILE BUT WAS NOT TOLD TO TAKE VITAMINS WHILE TAKING IT. I TOOK LESS THAN THE RECOMMENDED DOSE AND I DID LOSE WEIGHT. I ONLY TOOK IT WHEN I KNEW I WOULD BE AT HOME BECAUSE OF THE "ACCIDENTS". I ENDED UP IN THE HOSPITAL WITH SEVERE ANEMIA (IRON SHOULD BE AROUND 12, MINE WAS 4). I WAS ALSO UNDER A LOT OF STRESS AT THE TIME AND ENDED UP HEMMORAGING. THAT WAS OVER 4 YEARS AGO, I WAS DYING, AND I STILL HAVE THE BAD HEALTH EFFECTS FROM IT. IF YOU TRY ALLI BE VERY CAREFUL EVEN IF IT ISN'T AS STRONG AS XENICAL.

I haven't tried Alli but have been thinking about it. I was afraid of the bathroom problem. I need to loose 20lbs. but didn't know if it was worth it.

I feel great! I've been on Alli for 20 days and I have lost 12 pounds!!!!!!! I cut down my fat intake to 15 or less grams with every meal. I have never had an accident and go to the bathroom only once a day. There is oily fat when I do go but nothing to be scared about. That means the pill is doing it's job. I love and recommend it to anyone that needs to lose more than 40 pounds. GOOD LUCK

I have been on numerous diets and i mean numerous! Southbeach Diet, No carb Diet, Weight watchers, Slim Fast,Trim spa, herbalife and it didnt work at all!!! Ladies if you really want to lose weight than ALLI is a great idea!!! Its natural! No stimulants !it literally blocks a great amount of fat from absorbing in your body which makes you bloated and feel way bigger than what you are! I think since this is the first pill ever FDA approved than it must work!!!! We shall see in a few months!!!.

ok so i tried it when it was needed to be prescribed. (i worked for a doctor and was lucky enough to get samples vs. paying large amount with the pharmacist).. this pill can 'suprise' you.. in the most unflattering way.. i remember just sitting at work, and out of no where, not doing ANYTHING, and it was just flow out.. it was gross.. too many oopsies for me to deal with.. but it's great if you know you're going to eat a fattening meal (like steak, greasy fried foods, ect.) but it is true to form: IF YOU TAKE A PILL BEFORE EATING GREASY FOOD, THE PILL WILL CAUSE THE FAT TO RE-ROUTE AND COME OUT VS STAYING IN YOUR BODY... but if you dont east greasy food, there's really no use in taking the pill. i got on phentermine after i had my little girl 2 yrs ago.. and lost 100lbs and kept it off. the only thing that worked with me
