Is Michael Vick's Career Over?

Michael VickI just tried logging on to Michael Vick's official Web site to see if he's made an official statement about his latest plea deal. Instead, I got a nice error message that 'the server is temporarily unable to service your request due to the site owner reaching his/her bandwidth limit.' I guess I'm not the only one interested in checking out the latest on the Falcon QB!

With his plea deal, Vick can be sentenced for up to five years in prison and fined $250,000. However, AP reported that prosecutors will recommend 12 to 18 months of prison time, according to an anonymous government official.

Animal right advocates hope that Vick's case increases awareness about animal cruelty. People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals spokesperson mentioned that they're getting leads on other cases. They are also offering a $5,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of anyone involved in dogfighting. The American Kennel Club is concerned that Vick's punishment is inadequate, while the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals praises the U.S. Attorney's office and the USDA for sending a clear message to those engaged in animal cruelty.

As a Virginia Tech alumna, I'm upset about this whole case. I can only name a handful of Virginia Tech football players who have made it big in the NFL, and Vick is one of them. It's embarrassing and disappointing that a superstar has done such terrible things. He has brought shame on himself, his family, his fellow alumni and his fellow athletes. I hope that he NFL doesn't let him play in the league anymore.

While the NFL continues its own investigation, many people wonder if Vick will play in the league again. I personally think that his career is over. Even if he continues playing in the NFL, what company would want to endorse him? It's just a PR nightmare. What do you think?
