When I went to the Redskins game this past Sunday I was not quite sure what to expect from the fans. Before kickoff, the mood at FedEx Field was completely solemn as the 'Skins prepared to take the field for the first time without safety, Sean Taylor. There was a pre-game tribute at the stadium to honor the falle athlete. By the end of the video montage there was not a dry eye around me. Even though he was not on the field, Taylor was remembered the entire game. The staff at FedEx handed out towels with the #21 on them and it was amazing to watch people wave them throughout the game. It honestly gave me chills. On the first defensive play of the game, the Redskins started with only 10 men in order to honor the absence of their 11th player.
Thousands came out to pay their respects to Sean Taylor at a funeral held this Monday at FIU. Fans cheered and mourned the loss of the star player. Taylor was remembered by everyone from family members to coach, Joe Gibbs at the service. Even Reverend Jessie Jackson was in attendance to escort Taylor's family.
I am honestly shocked that this is the first day that we have seen the name Sean Taylor in our daily hot searches. Being from the D.C. area, I have seen the fan reactions and followed the case carefully since Taylor was initially shot. One thing I can say about Redskins fans is that they are a unique and loyal breed of people. Listening to reactions on the radio and actually attending the game this week have been very sobering experiences.
The whole situation is completely unbelievable. The fact that he was only 24 and was killed in this terrible act of violence is horrific. One of the attackers was only 17-years-old ... a CHILD was involved in this man's death! Hopefully this event will make people examine how out of control violence in the U.S. really is.

1. I also am a Redskin fan and I also mourn the loss of Taylor. What really made me sick was how much attention this got. There are so many young people that have been killed at the hands of violence and we do not see the same reaction to them as we did to SEan taylors death. Do not get me wrong about anything. taylors death is a tragedy and always will be. But anyone gunned down in society should be just as bad as his was.
