My neighbor recently bought the cutest little Beagle the other day. Buddy (the puppy) is really cute and after playing with him for over an hour, I realized it might be time to get a puppy. Then I thought back to my childhood and remembered how much work it was for my parents to raise a dog. I'm not certain I am ready for that yet. But I thought it would be interesting to find out what types of dog people are searching for.As you can see Chihuahuas are at the top of our list. Is it because the Chihuahua is the smallest breed of dog in the world? They usually weigh around two to three pounds as adults. Yes, those are the dogs that you see popping out of certain celebs handbags. Other small dogs include pugs and Yorkshire terriers. I think pugs are so cute with their wrinkly faces, although they do tend to breathe loudly and are very hyper.
Did you know that poodles are one of the most popular breeds in the world and are a symbol of elegance? Poodles are available in many different colors and come in three different sizes: miniature, standard and toy.
The Siberian husky -- known as the sled dog --and golden retrievers are very popular family dogs because of their friendly and patient demeanor. German shepherds ,on the other hand, were originally bred for herding sheep are now favorites for law enforcement and the disabled.
As you can see each breed has its own set of specialties. Are you a dog owner or getting ready to purchase a puppy? If so what's your favorite breed? If you don't see it on the list try searching for dog breeds in AOL Search.

27. Cairn Terriers are my very favorite. Little dogs with big personalities. My two are from different rescue groups. My little girl is from the Colonel Potter Cairn Rescue Network. And my darling boy is from the Cairn Rescue League. Getting "second hand dogs" means twice the love.

33. I agree with Ellen. I, too, have a retired greyhound named Cricket. She is smart, sweet, good-natured and great with children. But, when that doorbell rings she turns into a Doberman. Barks, growls, and scares away every salesman that rings the bell. However, once I let you in she will love you!

34. We have a 15 year old terrier mix and she is a member of our family. We have also over the years been owned by 2 Beagles that were wonderful. They were loving family members. Dogs and also other animals should only be owned by people that will treat them as family members and give them all of the love and care they deserve.

35. You forgot to mention the Tea Cup Poodle....often weighing only 2 pounds...and if you want a dog that does not shed...then the poodle...or mine...the Schnauzer would be for you....Schnauzers have human like hair and cause the least amount of problems for people allergic to dog dander...and they come in three sizes...Giant...Standard...and Mini.

36. People - Do the right thing and rescue a dog from your local animal shelter. We recently lost a beloved pet, and through fate (divine intervention?) we met our wonderful Heinz 57 little girl, Ruby. It was instant love, and we feel that she rescued us from the hollow spot left in our lives by our mourning. Shelter dogs need homes desperately. Please consider adopting one. You won't regret it.

37. We have 2 pembroke welsh corgies. Great dogs. Sturdy not wimps. Too much interbreeding with the most popular dogs. We really had to seek out a good breeder. Never buy from a pet store!!! very high prices and questionable breding stock. That goes for puppy mills also. You may save one dog but keep the mill in business to the torture of other dogs. pardon my spelling

38. A Pemvroke Welsh Corgi is an outstanding Pet and agility training...Check out Breeders who breed sound dogs. As a former corgi breeder I highly recommend them. However, I raised Minature Pinschers and now since I ilve in a retirement facility and handicapped, I now have a 13 month Minature Pinscher. Vanity is very intelligent and very active.she was very easy to house train . Probably not that good for a family with small children...but a joy .

39. I love my Chihuahua's. They are sweet and cozy and like babies. Plus, since they are small, they make smaller "messes".

40. Puppies are as much work as raising a child AND you have no idea what their personality and temperment will be when they grow up. It's much more practical to adopt an older dog. You know exactly what you are getting AND you are saving a life. Every time you buy from a breeder or even worse - a pet store, beautiful loving puppies and dogs are killed in shelters just because they have no home. There are breed specific rescues too, for someone that wants a particular breed. Looking for a new dog, cat, or puppy? Look on Petfinder.com!
