My neighbor recently bought the cutest little Beagle the other day. Buddy (the puppy) is really cute and after playing with him for over an hour, I realized it might be time to get a puppy. Then I thought back to my childhood and remembered how much work it was for my parents to raise a dog. I'm not certain I am ready for that yet. But I thought it would be interesting to find out what types of dog people are searching for.As you can see Chihuahuas are at the top of our list. Is it because the Chihuahua is the smallest breed of dog in the world? They usually weigh around two to three pounds as adults. Yes, those are the dogs that you see popping out of certain celebs handbags. Other small dogs include pugs and Yorkshire terriers. I think pugs are so cute with their wrinkly faces, although they do tend to breathe loudly and are very hyper.
Did you know that poodles are one of the most popular breeds in the world and are a symbol of elegance? Poodles are available in many different colors and come in three different sizes: miniature, standard and toy.
The Siberian husky -- known as the sled dog --and golden retrievers are very popular family dogs because of their friendly and patient demeanor. German shepherds ,on the other hand, were originally bred for herding sheep are now favorites for law enforcement and the disabled.
As you can see each breed has its own set of specialties. Are you a dog owner or getting ready to purchase a puppy? If so what's your favorite breed? If you don't see it on the list try searching for dog breeds in AOL Search.

662. We have two beagles, both rescue dogs, and a cocker spaniel. When you can give a dog a second chance at happiness, it is an incredible feeling. We have these friends for life. I would encourage everyone to look into rescuing a dog for their next pet.

670. I have had many dogs in my life, all but two were rescues or just from "accidental" breedings. One of my 2 was from a "breeder" that shouldnt have been breeding, I bought him to save his life..he is a doxie..and a nut..lol the other of the 2 I bought at a pet store, he had been in there nearly 6 months, so of course the price was cheap, and I knew the pet store hadnt made any money!!!! I couldnt stand to see him in there anymore!! I have had a doxie since before I was born..sounds funny, but my dad had one, and after I was born my dad wasnt allowed to take me out of the bassinet, only after my mom took me out was he ok to touch me!! I work with rescue groups, mainly with the dakotadachshundrescue.org, but help the others in the area when I can. I am currently fostering a 7 yr old mini black and tan that was a BREEDER dog and was in a cage for that 7 years. He is the cutest thing, I will definitely miss him when he gets adopted, but the nice thing about fostering is I know in todays world, I can foster another one!!! I would prefer never to have to foster again, BUT UNTIL PEOPLE REALIZE ANIMALS ARE FAMILY AND NOT POSSESSIONS..that will never happen. Until people QUIT BUYING FROM PET STORES, that will never happen. Until people EDUCATE THEMSELVES ON THE BREED,that will never happen. Until people EDUCATE THEMSELVES ON HOW TO RAISE A DOG, that will never happen. SUPPORT YOUR LOCAL RESCUES AND SHELTERS, SPAY AND NEUTER YOUR PETS. Until all this is done thousands of loving animals will be KILLED DAILY.

674. Everyone must have forgotten about the Shi Tzu. I have 1. He does'nt bark, no hair loss and house broken. I keep him in whats known as a pup cut. He is 12 years old, and definately the best breed.

675. All dogs are cool BUT Boxers are # 1 in personality. They have the best disposition, love people, LOVE children, want to please; faithful, fearless, FUNNY, clean, smart and loving to the end. Yes, they like to jump but that is so they can kiss your face. You can train them not to jump and that solves the one and only slight negative for most people.

676. I agree with Abbey, how could the Dachshund not make the top ten list is unbelieveable. No matter what color or hair size one of the should have been in the top ten. Come on Chihuahua alway look like there going to have a nerves break down. To me Dachshunds are the best of the pack.

677. I love them all, just please get your pets spayed & neutered...no excuse is good enough to allow more to be born that will never have a forever home. Lets start a tradition...we all know someone, a friend, family, or co-worker, who can't afford to get their animal fixed. lets each sponsor a spaying or neutering on a needy animal once a year. And purebreds are great for each breeds unique reasons, but the same thing that makes them unique makes them prone to some awful genetic flaws we humans have inadvertently bred for along with the colors/shapes/sizes/personalities. Our typical shelter mutts & mixes have far less tendencies towards bad hips, bad backs, eyes that pop out, ingrown eyelashes, blindness, deafness, & the list goes on. So even if you just must have your own special breed, & especially if you are a breeder, take special care to keep as much genetic diversity as possible invested in the breed. Stop refining them to the point that their nose is so squashed that their eyes pop out, or their back slopes so much that they develop hip dysplacia. Truly, we are their humans & we must do better by them. And please, for the casual pet owner...just don't! Don't ever bring an animal into your family unless you have every intention of providing it with a forever home!

679. Wow, I am a dog lover to the core. I love all of them, but my HEART belongs to the Irish Setter. Has been, is and always will be my number one Dog in my home. Any dog is welcome here and will get lots of love and more love and then a good meal. Kudos to all the dog lovers on this blog.

680. STANDARD POODLES, They ARE the best. I have three. They are smart. talented, learn fast, and sometimes they are clowns, but also very athletic. Mine do obedience, agility and rally competitively, they love it all and have many titles and awards. As Ralph said Poodles are very loving, more so than any breed I know. Poodles also are good for retrieving and search and rescue. Retrieving is what standards were originally bred for many, many years ago, and are NOT foo foo dogs as I have had some men call my dogs.
