My neighbor recently bought the cutest little Beagle the other day. Buddy (the puppy) is really cute and after playing with him for over an hour, I realized it might be time to get a puppy. Then I thought back to my childhood and remembered how much work it was for my parents to raise a dog. I'm not certain I am ready for that yet. But I thought it would be interesting to find out what types of dog people are searching for.As you can see Chihuahuas are at the top of our list. Is it because the Chihuahua is the smallest breed of dog in the world? They usually weigh around two to three pounds as adults. Yes, those are the dogs that you see popping out of certain celebs handbags. Other small dogs include pugs and Yorkshire terriers. I think pugs are so cute with their wrinkly faces, although they do tend to breathe loudly and are very hyper.
Did you know that poodles are one of the most popular breeds in the world and are a symbol of elegance? Poodles are available in many different colors and come in three different sizes: miniature, standard and toy.
The Siberian husky -- known as the sled dog --and golden retrievers are very popular family dogs because of their friendly and patient demeanor. German shepherds ,on the other hand, were originally bred for herding sheep are now favorites for law enforcement and the disabled.
As you can see each breed has its own set of specialties. Are you a dog owner or getting ready to purchase a puppy? If so what's your favorite breed? If you don't see it on the list try searching for dog breeds in AOL Search.

141. We have a Very Big Beagle name Muggs. We also had two other girls that was a Pomerian and a Sheltie Collie. Of the three the Sheltie was the easeist one to take care of, but my little Pomerian was my girl. Our beagle is the most money due to seizers since we got him at 4 weeks old. He has a mind of his own and more stubborn. But he is our big boy. Just love your babies if you get one. They are work but lots of love in the long run. Would never give any of them up

145. I have had mini schnauzers in the past and they are incredible companions. I have adopted 3 greyhounds...now these dogs are AWESOME! You rescue a dog from euthanasia, they come housebroken, leash trained, and the most loveable pets ever! They will steal your heart. Good with kids. Very docile. You do NOT need a large area for them at all. Consider these guys before you buy a dog. You can find more information at:

146. We have 3 dashunds-wire hair. One is a rescue dog named scotty, with some terrier traits, but the others are from breeders. The youngest is a miniature, boars-hair wirehair. All are very loving dogs, and great alarms systems. The first one is now 4 years old-Oscar-Meyer, a red wire hair, and mommas shadow.

154. I heartily agree with Elizabeth, #4, and with Trish, #7. I did have two mini schnauzers, Mr. Chips and Max, many years ago. They were different from each other, but both were wonderful companions to me and each other. All dogs, and cats, are precious and endearing to us all and their care and well being is of great importance.

155. I'm so glad that folks are getting dogs from the shelters & rescues! There are too many good dogs and not enough good homes. Way to go AOLers! My rescue dogs include: dachshund, silkie terrier, english bulldog, French Briard, Old English Sheepdog, and collie. They are all seniors and wonderful companions.

156. I know this is a downer, but EVERY breed mentioned ends up in shelters. Even with papers, even in great condition, even with great behavior.I have been in rescue for over 15 years. If you are considering ANY purebred dog, please, look for local breed rescue groups. There are hundreds, some are run by responsible breeders (not backyard breeders, flea-market thieves, or puppy mills)
The economy causes people to lose homes and pets, and vanity often causes people to get pets they don't truly want. I am not saying breeding is evil, just that you should always consider rescue first. They are the greatest most grateful and loyal dogs, too!

157. We've had many "hard luck" cases find us. Right now, we have 7 dogs in the house - 2 labs, 2 Aussies, a Pointer, a Jack Russell mix, and a terrier/beagle mix. 4 of them belong to our daughter, who is a professional dog trainer. She graduated from dog training school in October, and is working full-time as a trainer now. In our pack, 3 came to us off the street, 2 from the pound, and 2 from a pet store. Our little Jack Russell mix is a pound puppy with a real past. He survived a house fire in which some of his family members were killed, only to escape from his home and get hit by a city bus. He was taken to the pound, where he was nursed back to health. He appeared in a local newscast, and I had to have him. I'd been wanting either a Jack Russell or a Rat Terrier for a long time. Our Ernie is mixed, I think, with Wire Haired Fox Terrier. He has long, wiry hair and a long, hairy white tail. He has bushy little eyebrows and a beard. His markings are Jack Russell - white with black spots on his back and ears. He's so adorable, and very smart. And yes, in true terrier style, VERY active and often contrary. But I love spirit in a dog, so that suits me fine. He does give in to me when he knows I'm seriously correcting him. I could go on and on about him. He's just so special. Yep...I'm a dog-lover gone wild. I guess my daughter got it honestly! And also, YES to Beagles! We've had 2 - a tri-color named Jake who lived to be 15, and a red beagle named Oscar who was my baby. They really are full of personality. I will own one again.

159. What about Old English Sheepdogs?! They are a lot of maintenance but they are one of the best breeds I've ever had. They are so smart and loveable. No one realizes that they can be protective cause all they see is a big fluff ball.
