Almost every Sunday, NASCAR is one of our top searched terms. With so many people addicted to the sport, I thought it would be fun to find out who the top searched NASCAR drivers were.NASCAR has grown to become the second-most popular professional sport in terms of U.S. television ratings, ranking behind the NFL. Its 75 million fans are considered the most brand-loyal fans in all of sports and as a result, NASCAR has more Fortune 500 sponsors than any other sport.
I've never been to live race before but I have heard it's pretty amazing. I can imagine the adrenaline rush the drivers get speeding around the race course and trying to avoid crashing.
As you can see our top searched driver is Tony Stewart, who currently drives the No. 20 Toyota Camry and is sponsored by The Home Depot. Stewart made headlines this year after he allegedly punched another driver during a meeting with race officials.
Following Stewart is four-time champ Jeff Gordon, he drives the No. 24 Chevrolet Impala and his primary sponsor is DuPont. The late (but still immensely popular) Dale Earnhardt is fourth while current points leader Kyle Busch is seventh.
Did you favorite NASCAR driver make the list? If not, tell us about him or try searching for NASCAR on AOL Search. Don't forget to check out AOL Sports for the latest news on NASCAR.

161. As far as Q #19 from John, Yes! If you knew what YOU were talking about, you wouldn't have asked that question. You would have seen the shows and races where they talked about one girlfriend who was a DJ in the Charlotte area, also another year they talked about and showed clips of his girlfriend he met at the Texas track. It showed him out on his boat at Lake Norman with her, his mom and his sister. Even then she didn't walk out to his car with him before each race. Unlike a lot of famous ATHLETES, he doesn't need a showpiece and he doesn't use his private life to get in the news. He doesn't worry about impressing people, he concentrates on driving. Q #18 from Ro; I understand how you feel about Bristol. I go to both races every year and I am also a smoker. Lucky for us Nascar did fight to get us a smoking section. When I received my reorder for season tickets they explained it all and how the law just changed in Tennessee and there wasn't supposed to be any smoking there at all. Q #6 Bolawnow; as for not being athletes, I'd like to see how many NFL, NBA, etc. players would be able to play their whole game if they didn't have time outs, switching of players and time between quarters and halftime to sit on their butts on the sidelines & benches resting. I watch all those sports, but it takes a real sports fan to understand all these things. Q #8 Lorraine, Please don't insult dogs, maybe "Top Ape". My dogs fur looks better than the hair on his face. Q #16 Steve; Tony Stewart has to run his mouth, it's the only way he gets attention anymore especially since he's not doing much on the track. It's always someone else's fault he can't win, but yet they all have the same conditions and there's always a winner. (Oh, I forgot it should be easy everytime) Do you think all NFL players like playing in cold and snow, hmmm, maybe they should build all inside stadiums? Somewhere down the road he's probably related to Bobby Knight. You heard more about him than most college coaches; some because of the good coach he was, mostly because of the stupid things he's always said and done. Anyone who takes himself out of the chase just so he can get revenge on another driver (2006, Ryan Newman) isn't most fan's idea of the best driver. Plus, he's one of the only drivers I've heard that was put on probation by his own sponsor, HOME DEPOT. He can't stand it when his 22 yr old partner is kicking his butt on the track. As for giving away $2 mil, all drivers who make a lot of $ do the same, especially Jeff Gordon and Dale Jr, but they do it because they want to, not so they can brag about it. Do your research when it comes to charities and drivers. Dale Sr gave away more $ and helped more people that anyone would ever guess, but it only came out after he died, because one of his conditions when he did it was they didn't make it public. Now that's my idea of a "man". Pam

162. We love watching Jimmie Johnson and Jeff Gordon race. They are two of our favorites. We don't miss a Saturday or Sunday when NASCAR racing is on. Come on Jimmie and Jeff get back to the front of the pack, you are the BEST!

163. That was a poorly written article. It was obvious without Heidi telling us that she knows nothing about nascar. Tony Stewart is a popular driver, but as long as Dale Earnhardt, Jr is racing he will be the most popular. You don't have to search for Dale Jr on the internet because if you're a fan, you already know everything about him. The only thing you search for is merchandise. As for the question about why doesn't anyone see Dale jr with a woman, son of Dale Sr. He has to be really careful who he chooses to date, but he does date women.

164. Have been a NASCAR fan since the early 60's when the top rung was the Grand National Series. The sport is great, and I would love to be able to do what they do, but what I don't like at all is that stupid back flip of Carl Edwards. Also, all the driver seem to have either wives or girl friends, but every week Carl Edwards has his mother there to greet him. Since mommy is always there, maybe Carl is gay.

165. to the super stupid idiot(bolawnow), you obviously have no knowledge of the athletic ability that a NASCAR driver has. For the entire week prior to a race they train with weights, running and other vigorous training. 24 hours prior to a race they are recieving liquids by intraveinous methods (or an IV for idiots like you who don't know what that word is). They have to maintain their alertness at speeds reaching 120-200 mph for up to 5 to 6 hours at a time with temps reaching anywhere from 150 degrees and higher inside the car. I would like to see any NFL, NBA, NHL or any other athlete attempt their sport at these temps for the period of time that a REAL athlete does. Before you run your mouth about something do some research about it before you make yourself look like an idiot as you have now.

167. While some have more talent in one race or other types of situations, Dale Jr can drive with the best of them. Now that he has equipment that will not go out from under him every week, he is up there with the leaders and performs high. He is a great driver and person for the future of racing. He understands and cares about what is right for racing and his fellow drivers. Stewart and Bush is only out for themselves and would take anyone out, it they needed too. Jr hates to be the one but admits it and moves on. Thank you Dale Jr for following in your Fathers foot steps, we LOVE you. Go Jr. Go

170. What a stupid waste of time. Posted at 8:19PM on Mar 24th 2008 by Priny66786
You are absolutely right. Your comment and just the fact you have anything to say about Nascar is a "stupid waste of time" for both you and all the fans of Nascar. Why not go to another site where you know something about the subject matter you post a comment about.

171. Whoever wrote this doesn't know what they are talking about. I am not a Jr. fan but I know he has been the most popular driver for years. And where did Robby Gordon come from? Most searched? Learn your facts before writting. I am a Jeff Gordon fan and he is tops for me.

172. Tony may be at the top of this list, but he's on the bottom of the Goodyear Tire Builder's List. He advocated for Firestone, the comapny with the 2 largest recalls in US Tire Recall History. They weren't making safe tires back then and probably still aren't. Also, GT was just named " Most Admired" in Fortune Mag. They beat Michelin and Bridgestone in many categories .....including Technology....which Smoke said GT didn't have.......where is he getting his facts.....not very well up on what's happening off the track. Needs to keep his comments to the facts ......should apologize to GT for his critical remarks about a Company that stands for Safety First !!!

175. Q #86 - B. King, You're right about Gordon being most active winner, but he's already passed Dale Sr, the race he took a victory lap with the #3 flag was when he tied Dale Sr's record. As far as most record books are concerned, you can't compare records to Nascar for about the last 7-8 yrs considering most of the rules have changed, they didn't used to have a "lucky dog" and several drivers have won races only because of that. Also, if they did the championship now like they did for all the years up to the chase, Jeff Gordon would now have 6 championships. Back when Richard Petty was winning most of his races he only had a few good competitors and most races ended with the race winner being several laps ahead of 2nd place, so you can't compare records. If you really want to look at numbers, David Pearson won the highest percentage of races based on how many races he raced. That's why he was listed as one of the top drivers for the last century. When D.W., Dale Sr, Rusty Wallace etc. all started into racing over a period of years is when they started have more competition, but you CAN'T compare drivers from today against drivers from yesterday. That's like comparing Barry Bonds, Mark McGuire and Roger Clemens against all the players that broke records years ago, those players didn't have near the strength back then because they didn't pump themself with steroids. So the record books will end up being lopsided for people who hear about it for this century. For all those people who think Tony is one of the sole supporters of the Victory Junction Gang Camp, they need to do some research and find out how many other drivers have done a lot more than he has, but they don't stand around bragging about it like Tony does. Tony used to make it a little interesting, now he has no control, he needs to be on meds for bipolar, you don't have to be a psychiatrist to figure that much out. Pam

177. WHY HAS NASCAR GONE POWDER-PUFF? OF ALL SPORTING EVENTS, NASCAR ABOVE ALL IS A "FULL CONTACT" SPORT. WELL, IT WAS UNTIL NASCAR STARTED SLOWING CARS DOWN AND SUBJECTING DRIVERS AND TEAM OWNERS TO EXTREME PENANTIES. WHAT EVER HAPPENED TO DO WHATEVER IT TAKES TO WIN!
