As a child, I remember watching 'All My Children' with my mom. I actually loved the soap opera so much that when I was in college, I would rush home from class just to catch it. What is it about all the crazy drama that keeps us glued to our television sets? Soap operas have been around for well over 30 years. One of my girlfriends is addicted to 'As the World Turns'. She started watching the soap as a little girl, and thanks to DVRs she still watches it every day.
Since I've been out of the soap opera drama for a number of years, I decided to find out what the top searched soap operas were on AOL Search.
To my surprise not much has changed. The soap operas that were popular when I was a child are still popular today. As you can see, 'Days of Our Lives', 'General Hospital' and 'All My Children' made it into the top three. 'Fuego En La Sangre' (Fire in the Blood) is actually a Latino soap opera that has become popular over the past few months.
What is your favorite soap opera? Find out more about your favorite show by searching for it on AOL Television.

44. I'M A LONG FAN OF Y&R. THE NEW WRITERS ARE TERRIBLE.
I AGREE WITH THE PERSON WHO SAID, ABOUT THE SAME THING I FEEL. THEY NEED TO FIRE ALL OF THEIR WRITERS AND START FRESH. SOMEONE BACK FROM THE
DEAD, COME ON!!

46. I used to listen to the Guiding Light on the radio!!
I have stopped watching because the writers have killed off too many favorite characters. They have all these beautiful, young people having sex with everyone on the show to the point where they're not even sure whose kid they're carrying. The stories have little real substance or reality. It's sad & boring.

47. I don't think how often a show is searched on AOL necessary says anything about it's popularity, because B&B and Y&R were low on the list and yet have consistently had higher ratings than ATWT and GL (which I still think are better shows.)
As to the skeptics regarding GL's new format, I respectfully disagree. I think this new format has taken the acting to a new level. While I didn't like it at first, they've worked out the kinks and now the writing, performances and even look are better than ever!

49. I have watched AMC, OLTL and GH ever since I was a small child...i'm 28 now. My mom got me hooked. I watched B&B and Y&R for a while too, and I've seen a few PASSIONS, but if I want to watch a storyline about witches, I'll watch reruns of CHARMED!!!!

50. I have watched DAYS since just about day one when i was in high school. I am 61 now and never miss a show. I tape it everyday just in case. I have rarely ever missed an episode. I have stayed true even when it wasnt very exciting anymore. But now, wow, I cant wait to see it everyday. I love all the characters good and bad thats what makes the show so great, the great mix of people. I plan on watching till the end of it or me.

51. I will be 60 years old this year. I remember watching Search for Tomorrow and Guiding Light when they were each on for 15 minutes. Soaps have been around for more than 50 years not 30 years!! I still tape Days of our Lives and As the World Turns. It is my relaxation time watching soaps when I get home from work.

52. I have watched Days since the first day it premiered.
The families have seemed like my own and I feel like I know all the characters. I work full time but record all of the shows and watch when I retire for the night. If Days is taken off the TV I will feel like I have lost my family and friends. Please do whatever you can to keep it on the air. We are already being smothered by the morning talk shows and news broadcasts.

56. My husband says that admitting you have a problem is half the battle. "Hi my name is cheek237 and I am an addict" a soap addict that is. I watch Y&R, All My Children, One Life, GH & Days. I watch them all on SoapNet. The start at 7:00pm and play straight through. I love it because I don't have to record or TiVo anything. And heaven forbidden I miss them at night for some reason then I go to the SoapNet web site and read the recaps. I am pitiful I know but I can't help myself. I just love them all so much.

57. Whoever took this poll is way off....Young and the Restless is the only good believable story line on the soap circuit. Guiding Light should not even be in the top ten anymore with all the ridiculous amateuish video camera work they are doing...zooming in on people's faces and mouths way.toooooooooooo much. I watch all of the soaps from time to time so I pretty much know the sory line that is current...and trust me, Y& R has them all beat!

58. I agree about the new GL format - I know it was well-intentioned - but is definitely NOT an improvement (and I've been a fan since 1974!) As for "Day's" - I was kind of addicted to it for a few years some 20 years ago. But like B&B you can tune out for 20 years and feel like you haven't missed anything... The P&G soaps (GL and ATWT, for the most part) have truly outstanding writers and a wonderfully talented team-mate kind of cast that all seem to bring the best out in each other - rather than vying to be the superstar (at everyone's including the viewer's expense...)

59. I'M NOT SURPRISED THAT DAY'S CAME IN FIRST. IT IS THE BEST SOAP OPERA ON. I'VE BEEN WATCHING IT FOR OVER30 YRS. AND IF I CAN'T WATCH IT I TAPE IT AND WATCH IT THAT EVENING. I WILL CONTINUE TO WATCH IT AS LONG AS IT IS ON. CONGRADS DAY'S OF OUR LIVES!!!!!

60. I have watched Guiding Light since the 1950's. I agree with all of the negative comments about it. Viewers complained because they got rid of some sets and everyone lived at the hotel. Then they started doing outdoor shots (mostly in the rain/snow) and close ups to conceal the fact that all of the previous sets that were left were different. They also starting using music for long periods of time to save on "writers" fees. It is not interesting at all anymore. I keep watching hoping it will get better, but it doesn't. I probably will quit watching.
