As a child, I remember watching 'All My Children' with my mom. I actually loved the soap opera so much that when I was in college, I would rush home from class just to catch it. What is it about all the crazy drama that keeps us glued to our television sets? Soap operas have been around for well over 30 years. One of my girlfriends is addicted to 'As the World Turns'. She started watching the soap as a little girl, and thanks to DVRs she still watches it every day.
Since I've been out of the soap opera drama for a number of years, I decided to find out what the top searched soap operas were on AOL Search.
To my surprise not much has changed. The soap operas that were popular when I was a child are still popular today. As you can see, 'Days of Our Lives', 'General Hospital' and 'All My Children' made it into the top three. 'Fuego En La Sangre' (Fire in the Blood) is actually a Latino soap opera that has become popular over the past few months.

61. I'm a General Hospital Freak!!!! I've been watching it since I was little. I would come home from school and my Mom would have it on and I eventually fell into it. Ever since then, I have to watch it everyday. I hate when I miss an episode!!! So, I'm 23 and have been watching it since I was probably 8.

63. I have watched Y&R and Gl since I was a little girl and still like it but they need to get the gays off Gl. If they don't, I'll probably stop watching as if anyone would care. Just my opinion

64. I too have been watching Y&R since the beginning, I was 11 years old. I watch no other soap, but, I feel I grew up with Nicki. She and I have shared so much of the same issues over the years. I would feel like I had lost a friend of I gave it up. And, I am not some housewife with no other life. I own a very successful business. But, I too, like the other reader, feel like it has lost something. I too am disgusted with Gloria. I know they have tried to soften her, but, she committed a crime with NO consequence at all. In fact, they made her rich. She ruined Jack. He lost Jabbot, his father's company. All because she tainted cream over some revenge. PLEASE! Have her pay the price, and let Jack have back Jabbot.

68. DOOL is THE Best soap ever! U have been watching since I was 10 and I am now 34. I do not understand why it does not do well with the awards though because it is very deserving of it. At times it has a huge cheese factor BUT so do all of the soaps I mean they are NOT reality and that is why I watch because it is an escape.REALITY TV STINKS!!!!!!! GO DOOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!

69. I started watching General Hospital as a kid because my Mom had it on when we came home from school. Forty years later I still am a fan. Happy 45th Birthday!....your STILL My FAVOURITE! There have been many plots/schemes that I didn't care for (the death of Emily, Laura being committed, etc) but overall GH gives me a reason to watch. Others of interest are OLTL and Days.

71. Days is the only soap that I watch. I mean I tape it everyday... and I have been watching it since I was 12. I am 22 now and will continue to watch until it cancels. It's just so good, it sucks you in! I love it!

72. I really enjoy to watch Days so much because they really are wonderful people whom I love all. I could not wait for John being back as old John. I miss Belle and Shawn. Sami always be best one! I agree that Days is the only soap I watch too. Bless all of people of Days.

74. I listened to the Guiding Light on the radio as a kid!!! The new soups are pretty sad. They've killed off favorite characters, have all these young, beautifuls on having sex left & right--stories have no substance. No wonder they are losing viewers like me.

76. I have watched Days since it started. I get upset because it is overlooked for awards. Please bring Lucas back so the tradition of Brady and Horton family lineage can continue. Give EJ to Nicole. Make Will confess. It saddens me when I hear of one of the actors has died(Jed Allen,etc.

77. It is hard to believe that Days of Our Lives has won this survey. It is one show that is never mentioned when my friends and I are talking about the soaps. While it is a good soap, others are much better. I can hardly believe that One LIfe To LIve is not as popular. They have some great storylines and great people on this soap. I would like for someone to do away with Todd. He is too unbelievable. If he were my father, I would leave and never come back.

78. I have grown up with AMC, OLTL, & GH. Strayed for a few years when BB came on & watched As the World Turns, B&B & GL. 4 yrs ago I went back to the ABC soaps. I have tried to watch GL and it is AWFUL.. I have began to watch Y&R on Soap Net and I love it. I agree with others about Gloria ENOUGH ALREADY and bringing up the dead. Whos next? Drew going to come back for Lily & the baby? I agree Y&R make Gloria pay. Oh and replace Sabrina with a real actor shes awful too. The gal cant act.

79. I use to watch Y&R but with all of the relative marriage, it began to border on incest. That was it for me. They need to get more characters and work them in or out of the storyline.

80. I'm a straight guy, so I know my opinion doesn't matter much here. I've been watching All M. C. and A.T.W.T. for 20 years. A.M.C. [many years ago] was the best soap on TV. These days [years] it has been unwatchable. The story line, well, there hasn't been any for about 5 years now. While A.T.W.T. is so well written and the actors great. Guess it's the only soap where the story lines are actually so close to "real life" most can relate. The others, ghosts,vampires, so much stupid garbage, one asks how can anyone watch that crap. A.T.W.T. will always be my #1 and to those of you who love it because it's the only soap where virtually the entire cast are like you and I. Real life...
