Well, it's that time of year again -- the weather is warm and we start showing more skin. Unfortunately, more bare skin means the need to get rid of unwanted hair. Every year I try to convince myself to bite the bullet and try electrolysis or laser hair removal. Even though I wouldn't have to waste my time and energy shaving anymore, I remember my girlfriend telling me how painful and expensive those types of treatments are and I let go of the idea.
So I decided to find out what hair removal treatments our users are searching for. Although waxing can be slightly painful, it can be worth it since it keeps unwanted hair away longer than shaving.
Another option is depilatory products, like Sally Hansen , Nair or Veet. These products are creams or liquids that you apply and then wipe away (and your unwanted hair gets wiped away, too). It sounds easy to do, but they sometimes leave your skin irritated with bumps or a rash.
If it's facial hair that you are trying to remove, there are other alternatives to bleaching. There is a prescription cream, Vaniqa, that slows down the growth of the hair rather then bleaching or removing it.

2. I don't know who is paying this woman but she is obviously not a skin care expert. First laser hair removal is less painful than waxing. I am speaking from experience, not for something someone else said. Second, dipilatories are not always safe, they can irritate and even scar the skin. Third, laser hair removal is not that expensive, it pays for itself. The monthly waxing can add up. Call you local medspa for a complimentary consultation

3. I am obsessed with tweezing. I am constantly running my hands over my face for hair and if I feel a bump, I run and tweeze it. I don't have the time and funds for laser hair removal but I am obsessed with my facial hair.
I used to just shave my legs and more obsess on my facial hair. I recently lost about 15 pounds and now would love to get my legs (and bikini line) waxed!
I lost the weight using a cheap stationary bike that I bought at sears http://www.sears.com. (sturdy and efficient) and LOVE, LOVE
my smartsole insoles. You just slip those insoles in your flat shoes
and it tonse muscles and increases cirulation. You burn more
calories while doing the same things http://www.smartsole.com

4. Hey Pam, I got smartsoles too and love them. They only work in flat shoes however.
I wax all the time and use the Bliss Poetic wax kit that I buy at Sephora. They also sell an at home hair zapper called no no that I bought for $250 and it was worthless.
I love Sephora for all my cosmetics and for the Frederic Fekkai hair conditioner. Smells so great and a little goes a long ways. I shop online at Sephora.com through an online shopping mall and I
have been saving between 5-55% on my purchases at over 1100 stores
online including Bare
Necessities, Sephora, Apple, The Gap, Target (great for soo much),
Macy's. I also wait for sales so I get my cash back and the lowest
price

5. LASER HAIR REMOVAL is the BEST WAY!
They also have EMLA cream they can apply 20-30 minutes before laser hair removal and you won't feel anything!!
Its awesome and it WORKS!!
Vaniqa works really great too. With all my regular meds, its not in my budget anymore so I'm tweezing again........but heck, I can tweeze in the dark, I can tweeze while driving down the road with pinpoint accuracy and not even look in the rearview mirror....and I'm driving!
This is one thing I'm still mad at my mom about......I had NO CLUE that women could grow facial hair like a MAN.....all it takes is for heridity or hormones to turn the switch on and you could probably grow a goatee fast!!
I was also going to stay they have spironalactone that is a prescription med that helps block androgen induced hair growth. It doesn't work the greatest by itself but coupled with tweezing, laser hair removal, vaniqa......its quite effective.

6. Anyone suffer from bumps when shaving 'down there'???
(forget waxing that area thank you very much!!)
Anyways, I found a great way to stop the bumps BEFORE they can form.......forget Bikini Zone ect!!
Wash with liquid DIAL antibacterial soap (they have different scents)
Wash that entire area like you normally would, rinse......then later up that area with the liquid dial soap and shave away. NO BUMPS (or significantly LESS than normal)
The first washing washes away any bacteria that is normally in that area......the 2nd makes sure that when you're shaving that private area that bacteria cannot get into the hair follicle thus causing ingrown hairs or ugly red bumps.
I'm serious, it WORKS and I've tried everything over the years.
Worth a shot. I've also figured out that using a brand new razor isn't the best way......it cuts too sharply, too close to the skin and you can easily get bumpy/red/ingrown hairs.
ALSO, good old fashioned WITCH HAZEL applied to the area after shaving works very well also. It doesn't burn like alcohol based products either.

7. As a true redhead, I always thought shaving my 'bikini area' was never going to become a habit. I am sensitive to everything. I think that Dial comment is interesting, and can see the logic in making certain you have no bacteria in that area before you shave. However, at the age of 36, I have FINALLY found a product that allows me to shave in that area without irritating me into skirts...Gilettes VENUS BREEZE. They are the razors with the shave gel bars, and even though they are a little pricey, they work great. I make sure I use one on my legs for the first shave, but then I dedicate that razor to that area alone, until the gel bars disappear. So, REDHEADS, if you want to shave that area and have yet to find a product that won't cause you painful irritation and redness, try that one.

8. I spent thousands on laser hair removal and it only worked around the bikini area, not the face. The hair must be really dark for it to work. Don't let any laser center talk you into spending $ if you are medium to light haired. You are better off tweezing.

9. I am in the process of laser hair removal. It takes 5-6 treatments I am told. It doesn't hurt much at all. The lady doing this article should have did a bit more investigation on that part. I heard it described as being popped by a rubber band before. The first time, when I wasn't expecting it, that is what it felt like. The rest of the treatment was a breeze. It is a bit costly, but well worth the money if I don't have to worry about it anymore. He said he has a 90% success rate.

10. Has anyone heard of threading? I do it in my salon. Its an ancient indian and egyptian practice that uses thread to remove hair of the face. You get cleaner lines, red for less or not at all and you are not damaging your skin, as you do with waxing. Over time waxing stretches the skin (causing wrinkles) and it can also discolor the skin. Some people say it is more painful than waxing, others say less painful, but once you keep getting it done, the hair doesn't grow back as fast, and grows back finer.

11. I did the dermalite laser removal and I am really satisfied with the results. Its been over a year and my bikini line is still smooth and hair free. I would recommend it for dark haired fair skinned people because it won't target red or light hair or work on dark skin. I did have to go for more than the 5-6 treatments though, but definitely worth it.

12. It's really not this serious. I think some women make things way more difficult than they actually are. Just get rid of the friggin hair, and move on!

15. What about "THREADING".By far it is fantastic and there is no redness and the elasticity of your skin is not impaired like with waxing.Your skin is soft and you always have a perfect eyebrow arch!
Posted at 10:19AM on May 24th 2008 by kk
16. Threading is the absolute worst pain I have ever felt in my life. I had to stop the girl 4 times during the process and was actually crying from the pain. And I have an otherwise high tolerance for pain. I stick to waxing my eyebrows (the hair doesn't grow back for 3 weeks) and they look fantastic.

17. There isn't much factual scientific information in this article that could possibly help a reader. A high schooler could have written it based on her experience on the topic. I guess the problem was that the link was deceiving, promising to tell whether one method of hair removal was better than another.

18. What about epilating? Does anyone else do this? I bought an epilator about two years ago and love it. I only use it on my legs, but your skin stays smoother for much longer. I would have to shave every day otherwise and waxing can get expensive.

19. Last year after going to the salon for facial hair removal, i decided to by the "Tweeze". Its wonderful and has saved me hundreds of dollars. You can buy it on line or at Bed Bath & Beyond in my area. You can also use it on your underarms and legs. I only have to use it about every six weeks and the hair comes back like "peach fuzz". Give it a try. Its $20.00 in my area. Good Luck

20. Sandra, I'm a guy and get full body waxes. I highly recommend waxing for your boyfriend if he's wanting to remove some/all body hair. I was lucky to find a guy in So. Calif that is great at what he does.. this was important to me as I didn't want a female working on the "nether regions"!
