Men's Health Week is celebrated each year as the week leading up to and including Father's Day (June 9-15 this year). The purpose of the week is to heighten the awareness of preventable health problems and encourage early detection and treatment of disease among men and boys.
Statistics show that men are more likely to turn to the Internet for information on health topics rather than call a nurse or doctor for advice. Men generally don't like discussing their health issues due to embarrassment.
To help drive awareness of Men's Health Week, I decided to find out what the top searched men's health topics are on AOL Search. As you can see from the list below, prostate cancer, urinary tract infections and insomnia are among the top three. Men are also searching for everything from ulcerative colitis to prostatitis to hair loss. They also want to learn more about vasectomies and indigestion.
Is there a health topic that you go online to learn more about? If you think you are experiencing any of these health issues you should see your doctor, but you can also learn more by searching for men's health on AOL Search or going to AOL Health for information.
Top Searched Men's Health Topics on AOL Search:
1. Prostate Cancer
2. Urinary Tract Infection
3. Insomnia
4. Hair Loss
5. Vasectomy
6. Ulcerative Colitis
7. Diabetes
8. Impotence
9. Prostatitis
10. Indigestion

4. I'm surprised that heart attack or stroke aren't in the top ten male worries. Sudden heart attack is often on my mind even though stress tests reveal that my heart is very healthy, like that of a 35 year old; and, I'm 66.
I jump at the most innocent noise and can't drink to soothe my nerves, so my doctor has me on librium. When it's completely quiet I am calm. I sleep with ear plugs and an eye shade (a sports headband works fine).

5. In light of the rising numbers of middle-aged and older adults, I was surprised that memory loss was not on the list.
Here is a good memory screening website in case you are interested in testing your memory:

7. I am nearly 68 yrs. of age and doing very well.
In 2002 I was informed I had had a serious heart attack, surgar, high blood presure and hemocromtosis which is incurable, today I am a well man and I can tell you why and who is my source.
I am a born again beleiver in the Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ and according to the Word of God I don't have to live under the attach of any sickness, therefore I choose to beleive in GOD. I was informed to go home and prepare for the end of life because I would not live long.
Thanks be to the Lord Jesus Christ and my faith in the unadulterated WORD OF GOD I am healed to day and do not have to be concerned about my health, what I do is eat right and live for the Glory of God.
Excuse me if you think I am rdical, but you may not understand how greatful I am that I live for the King of Kings and Lord of Lords.
In some way may this note incurage someone to a better life in Jesus Christ.

8. No surprise that obesity didn't even make it to the top ten, when obesity due to poor nutrition and sedentary life style are leading causes of diabetes, cancer, heart disease & stroke in America. The lack of understanding or concern about diet and nutrition among all Americans is absolutely appalling.

11. OH NO , the hair should be the least thing to worry about middle age.Overall Health is so much more important.
I agree that neither Alzheimer, or Heart attack is on the list. I had a 38 year old with a heart attack next to me in the hospital and many more younger male's on the floor with H attack's
I think we got our priorities mixed up.

12. Well, dang yes... Memory loss should have been up there on the list. Maybe it was forgotten. Many people simply think about what their friends are talking about.
Hey, I just now thought of one concern that men should think about: memory loss.

13. Don't be misled. It is not fear, but an astronomical rise in cancer rates that makes people look it up online. With over 90% of corn and soy in the US now genetically modified WITHOUT PUBLIC KNOWLEDGE OR CONSENT, and corn and soy in everything from soda to frozen dinner to bread, along with unchecked carcinogens everywhere, courtesy of big business in collusion with the FDA, cancer rates are now at 1 of every 2 men, and 1 in 3 for women. And it will only continue to get worse.
