I remember as a child walking with my grandmother to our town drugstore to pick up her prescription. Times have definitely changed! Now you're able to fill your prescriptions in grocery stores, retail stores, online pharmacies and even at wholesale clubs. With so many pharmacies to choose from, how do you decide which one to use? For me it's all about convenience. If I have a prescription that I don't need filled immediately then I usually use a mail order pharmacy or a discount pharmacy to cut down on expenses.
If I need the prescription quickly, I consider what other errand I can I do while waiting for the prescription to be filled. So my usual choices are CVS, Target or Sam's Club that way I can get my shopping done while waiting on my prescription. I have a girlfriend who swears Candian pharmacies are the cheapest way to fill prescriptions.
Which pharmacy do you prefer? Do you know of a pharmacy that didn't show up on our list? If so, please tell us about it. Try searching for pharmacies on AOL Search. Or check out AOL Yellow Pages to find pharmacies in your area.

1. I love drugstore.com. I buy my Biolage Conditioner by Matrix there as well as my Amazing Grace perfume by philosopy... I get so many compliments when I wear that scent. I buy everything discounted.
I bought it online at Drugstore.com through an online shopping mall where I receive back 5-55% on my purchases at over 1100 stores online including Bare Necessities, Sephora, Apple, The Gap, Target (great for soo much),
Macy's and Best Buy I also wait for sales so I get my cash back and the lowest
price

2. I prefer the convenience, shorter walk across the parking lot and to the pharmacy counter, and privacy of my locally owned pharmacy rather than the large impersonal companies. The owners/employees see me enter the store, get my prescription off the shelf, ask if I have any questions, and off I go. Personal, easy, and fast.

5. Giant Eagle, you earn points and can get a discount if you buy gas from their gas stations. I don't know what the top amount is that you can get off per gallon, but at times I've 60-80 cents off per gallon. You can also earn points for buying food and/or gift cards to other stores and restaurants too.

8. While I understand your desire for convenience, please know that medications are NOT widgets that can be safely purchased anywhere. You are playing a dangerous game of medical roulette by utilizing more than one pharmacy. As a community pharmacist, I DAILY see harmful and potentially fatal drug interactions which require doctor notification and modification of prescriptions. When meds are purchased at multiple sites, these interactions are easily overlooked. Are the pennies saved by shopping for price alone worth the expense in time, money, and health caused by a hospitalization due to a serious interaction? Sticking with one pharmacy diligently watching for your safety is the safest route, whichever pharmacy you choose.

9. You are treating pharmacy services as a simple commodity. Good quality pharmaceutical care involves a review off all medications taken prior to taking a new medication, screening for drug interactions and allergies, as well as disease states. You can acheive that level of care using all the modalities mention in the article.

12. I can't believe the author is recommending using different pharmacies for different prescriptions. That is very dangerous to do. Unless it is an absolute emergency you should use the same pharmacy to fill all your prescriptions. That way the pharmacist will be able to properly counsel you and warn you of any drug interactions. If you do have to use a mail order pharmacy for some prescriptions you should make sure you have a good list of what you take and present this anytime you get a prescription filled at a local pharmacy. And you should definitely stick to ONE local pharmacy, not just where you feel like shopping that day. It could be dangerous to your health otherwise!

15. I love filling my prescription @ an independent pharmacy. For me its all about the service and convinience. Chains stores dont always deliver or provide fax service, notary, great customer service. Forever Young Pharmacy inside Rainbow's hardware store is fantastic.

16. There is nothing better then Walgreens for your safety and professionalism. They have the best trained people. I have to use mail order because of my insurance for some medications but Walgreens has always been way ahead on service and assistance.

17. I use CVS. They are the best in my opinion. They are much more convenient. Walmart & Cosco have the $4 pricing, but that is on older generics. Plus they are less convenient. CVS also offers you extra bucks that you can spend in the store for all your scripts. I enjoy being rewarded for just picking up scripts. It is much easier.

18. I visit CVS only in the direst of circumstances. I didn't like the druggists who refused to fill certain prescriptions because of their "religious beliefs", so I never fill a script there. I prefer my local small pharmacy, but I also like a national store where I can fill my script out of state. I forgot my meds and I was 1200 miles away, but Walgreens had my info and I got my meds. I like Walmart again for the low price meds; still hate the store but will support it for offering low priced meds.
