People say, "A man's house is his castle." If this is true, then a man should feel safe when inside his fortress. But homes don't come equipped with a moat and fire-breathing dragon for protection anymore. The closest thing we have these days to a knight standing guard at the drawbridge is a security guard, but you most likely don't have one standing at your front door 24/7. How are you supposed to feel safe in your home then?I feel safest with my home security system. It is rather minimal, but it makes me feel secure and that is what is important. My security mostly consists of an alarm system that alerts me when my doors or windows are opened, like Brink's 24-hour home security monitoring service. There are many parts to security alarms that you can combine to beef up your own security. No matter where you live, burglar alarms on your windows and doors are important to protect yourself from an unexpected break in. For safety and health, think about adding a falling alert that will notify paramedics if you have an accident.
Security surveillance systems are another way to monitor safety both outside and inside your home. Interior cameras allow you to watch your children playing in their bedroom while you have a snack in the kitchen, like ADT's Safewatch Video View. Depending on your price range, your security camera system can feature either black and white security cameras, for simple coverage, or color security cameras, for detailed coverage.
Whether you implement an intricate alarm and video security system or you simply install bars for window security, home and apartment security are essential for peace of mind and safety.

1. I completely agree that a person should always feel safe in his or her home and that a home security system can be a great investment to ensure safety and peace of mind.
One recommendation that I would have would be to look into an audio security system. Audio is the only way to provide complete 100% wall to wall coverage of your home and protect you beyond simply the traditional entry points of doors and windows.

2. A well-trained dog still might be the best bet. But in this age I would have an animal or a monitored fire/burglar alarm.

3. Here is another tip. If you make your apartment looks occupied while you are away, then you have an opportunity to substantially decrease a chance of burglary. Lights and noise in your apartment are the best burglar deterrents. These CDs have prerecorded household sounds and bathroom noises that make an impression that your apartment is occupied, even if nobody is there.
You can let CD play nonstop while you are away.
Two sites make similar products: www.DeterrentSounds.com and www.audioguard.com.
Hope this might help!
