A few months ago I decided to cancel my gym membership. Since I barely went to the gym, I figured I could take the $70 a month that I was spending and invest it in home fitness equipment instead. Then I would have access to a 24-hour fitness center right in my own basement. At first I found it a little overwhelming to complete my exercise routine without the help of the personal trainers I used to consult with at the gym. However, as I collected more of my own home fitness equipment I realized it is as easy to work out at home as it is to use the fitness equipment available at the gym.
Working out at home allows me to fit in exercise whenever it's convenient. I can pedal on my stationary bike while reading a book or climb on the stepper while watching TV. If my workout starts feeling a bit stale, I like to spice it up with fitness training DVDs, like pilates. Now I don't have any excuses for missing a daily workout and I am losing weight.
Do you know of any good fitness equipment that did not show up on the list? If so, please tell us about it. Check out more from AOL Shopping or search for fitness equipment on AOL Search.

I love Wii-Fit. The balance board is great and I use it to practice
yoga and am learning golf. It is great exercise and I will not mind
have my kids playing with this. It is better to go outside and get a
work out but on a rainy day I would prefer my kids to play with this
than Grand Theft Auto.
As a mother of 3 I try t get a work out in whenever I can. Going to
the gym every day is not an option for me...and I way to expensive. So much more convenient to work out at home
I use a precor rower for arms and LOVE, LOVE
my smartsole insoles. You just slip those insoles in your flat shoes
and it tones muscles and increases cirulation. You burn more
calories while doing the same things...cool beans!

I also found a coupon code for the smartsoles. It is gb10 and it
gives you a 10% discount

ok, here is the truth... i lost 70 pounds, and going to an actual gym is the key. A lot of these fitness products claim they can do the work for 30 other macu=ines and incorporate it into one machine...FALSE!!!! You need individual macines to isloate the excersise and the area you want top develop. We are not talking about the shinking machine, again FALSE!!!! Take it from me-the proof is in the pudding, no pills no diets, It;s a life style change,,,,AND YOU CAN STILL EAT CHOCALTE, AS LONG AS IT'S ONY 1 choclate bat a day (only 220 calories)....PLUS who cares, when one does weight lifting like I do ...while you sleep you are still buring calories-----------------------
want results, don't apy me until you get results...other wise no money upfront. I am Living proof, Sue

I think it is great to have a gym in your home but it isn't for me. I wouldn't find the time while at home. I have to actually leave or go straight to the gym after work. Sometimes I go at lunch time and get in a "quickie" workout of 20 mins. I have rented exercise DVD's and not "get around" to using them! But for those who can exercise at home, more power to you and I wish I was like you. Take care and keep on with the exercising and ENJOY!!

You can build you own work-out unit. I'm one of the strongest men on earth. The one I made will do almost anything including abs, & I made it from a beer pallet.... alfredschrader@aol.com

Home gyms are fine, but I am a personal trainer and I know from experience that it will only take you so far. A fitness center will provide you with more than enough variety to achieve your goals. Especially those who have certified trainers, aerobics instructors and flexible hours. If you're serious about your goals I would advise you to spend your money wisely and join a fitness center that provides you with everything you need.

I think this is great advice. I know what it's like to try and lose weight. I lost 47 pounds in 6 weeks using the Rapidthin diet at www.rapidthin.com. Good luck to all. Use what works for you.

weight training is the best...just invest in some weights and the toning will occur...never mind weight loss and muscle build up

I have smartsoles and they are great. Definitely make my legs feel energized when I walk and I find that to be the best exercise for me. I work 50 hours a week and have 3 kids and a lazy husband so I don't have a lot of free time.
Smartsoles only fit in flat shoes and I wear them in my sneakers and take a walk for 45 minutes lunch time. I have dropped 10 pounds in the last 6 months and I can say it is due to smartsoles and discovering 100 calorie packs of popcorn. Love them...So much crunching for not a lot of calories.

Any of that "As Seen On TV" will work as long as you use it and eat sensibly. The main things are to maintain a regular workout schedule (if you can). Vary your workouts. Keep a good mixture of cardio and muscle toning. I go to the gym at least twice a week, I also workout at home. Something else I do (it may seem wierd for a man) but I window shop. I was in an accident a few years ago and I have terrible pains when I move too much, I find that I can walk further if my mind is not on the pain. Youd be surprised at how far you walk just walking around looking at stuff. I would not suggest spending a lot of money and its not necessary.

I have a site for my YOGA DVD: BODYFRIENDLYOGA.com which also links to an equipment site: Perform Better. One of the best toold I use in the video, at home, and can be bought through the link is the foam roller. It is grea to challeng the core, align the spine, and it is useful as a cheap massage! Kama

I am 59. You do not know anyone like me. On a tred-m stress test, my doctor told me I tested out at what would be the low end of an olympic athelete. On a construction site this summer I moved 21 tons of carthage stone (granite) in two days by myself. I bench around 215 with 235 my max. It is diet, commitment to exercise yes...but going beyond physical limits is 90% mental.
I learned this in viet nam. at 17 yrs. 5'3" wt. 119 pounds I found my self in a heavy artillery unit as an ammo handler. The shells weighed 204 lbs apiece. Yes at first it was impossible but eventually I could handle the wt. Then...I found "the secret"...During fire missions where troops were in trouble...there could be no stopping. You stop. They die. Sometimes the fights would last all night. During those times you quickly reach the absolute end of your physical capabilities. the wall. the bottom. You cannot physically carry another round. But you do...then another... and another...and another. The mental image of your boys being killed provided the motivation for extra effort...but that would still not be enough...and we are not talking adrenaline here. Sure, that would be a factor for a short time...the body can only produce so much adrenaline. we are talking all night long. Hours and hours. Beyond what is humanly possible.
After the war I studied martial arts and further developed this knowledge thru visulization, focusing energy, deep breathing and my own brand of meditation. I have applied it to every aspect of my life. As a construction laborer I leave crews of 3 and 4 men in my wake. As a hunter, I once (with the help of a good hound) chased a wounded deer for 8 miles and drowned it in the lake.
Tonight at the gym on the treadmill with the speed on 3.0 and the incline on max at 15 I ran for 1hr.32 min.s
In my old age I have joint pain but so far am able to block it out when I need to. My diet sucks right now but when I get my jucier going and lay off the junk...well, like I said. You don't know anyone like me. Learn this secret if you can...and the limits you now accept will be destroyed with a new knowledge
