Top Searched Stretch Mark Creams

We have high expectations for having a perfect body, from having six-pack abs to flawless skin. Whose fault is it? Many will say the media, which portrays young women with airbrushed bodies. I say it's our own fault. We know no one is perfect, yet we still strive to get a flawless body. It is encouraging when you see celebrities who have lost weight. It makes us think that hey, I can do that, too! However, we somehow conveniently forget that they work out for hours daily with personal trainers and work with nutritionists to help them lose weight. And let's not forget the possible nip and tuck.

Stretch marksStill, we ignore those facts and obsess with our bodies. Take stretch marks for example. Raise your hand if you don't have one single stretch mark on your body ... yeah, I don't believe you. I'm lucky that I don't have many stretch marks -- I think slathering myself with moisturizer helps, or maybe it's genetic. Who knows? Either way, I can't complain.

People go out of their way to prevent and get rid of stretch marks. The least expensive way is using stretch mark creams, although some creams cost over $100 for a 6-ounce bottle. Some also try laser treatments, dermabrasion and chemical peel. I've read that drinking a lot of water helps you develop fewer stretch marks since it makes your skin soft, therefore more elastic. It may also help if you eat foods high in zinc, like nuts and fish, and rich in vitamins A and C, like carrots and citrus. However, if stretch marks run in your family, then you'll probably still get them anyway.

I guess no one knows for sure if any of the stretch mark treatments really work, but people just love to try! Check out the top searched stretch mark creams on AOL Search below. Have you tried any of them? If so, did they work for you?

Popular Diets -- Fad or Not?

DietsDiet can be a negative word. If you ask an average woman how many diets she's been on, I'm guessing she'll say at least three. Many probably say that diets just don't work or that they only worked for a short period of time.

I myself have been on, hmmm ... maybe at least two diets that I can think of. One when I was in high school and I lost so much weight in two weeks that it scared me, so I stopped (OK, that wasn't a diet, that was starving myself by eating carrots for lunch and dinner). And the other one was about two years ago. I haven't been on a diet since then, although the way I've been downing ice cream sundaes lately, I think I'll need to!

The last one that I did was the South Beach Diet and I'm pleased to say that it worked for me. I lost 15 pounds in 2 months. Woohoo! Plus my grocery bill was lower since I stopped buying cookies and desserts. I thought Phase I was the easiest phase, contrary to what others may say. It was easier for me because I knew exactly what I could and could not eat. I did get sick of having boiled eggs and skim milk everyday for breakfast, though, instead of my usual cereal with skim milk and orange juice.

When Phase II came around, I thought I was about to fail my new regime. I found that it was hard to control the portion of carbs and sugar that I could introduce back into my diet. Somehow I stuck with it -- I think logging in my information on the South Beach Diet Web site really helped me since I can track my food intake and my progress. Also, I did have a cheat day once a week where I allowed myself to eat anything as much as I want, so I didn't feel as deprived.

So now, I'm thinking about going back on the South Beach Diet. Although I just heard about the 3-hour diet, where you eat every three hours, and the cookie diet ... no joke! With the cookie diet, you eat one dinner and six hunger-suppressing cookies a day. That one is definitely interesting, but I don't think that will work for me since I need variety in my food.

I decided to use summer as an excuse to not go on a diet. What 's a girl to do when it's 95 degrees outside and you just need to have an ice cream cone? So maybe in the fall, I'll revisit this whole dieting thing again. Until then, you can share some dieting tips with me. Which diet plan has worked for you?

Barbie's Not So Safe

Is 2007 the year of the recall? First, the pet food fiasco. Then, the beef recall. Now, Mattel recalls more than 18 million toys, only two weeks after 1.5 million Chinese-made Fisher Price toys were recalled.

Barbie - Mattel toy recallParents are definitely concerned. The recalled toys include popular items such as Barbie dolls, Polly Pocket play sets and Batman action figures. According to a parents' guide to toy recalls on Time.com, the toys have been recalled because of lead paint and loose magnets. The small, loose magnets glued onto the toys may be accidentally swallowed by children. If toys that contain excessive amount of lead ingested, children may face developmental and health problems, such as hyperactivity, low IQ and kidney damage.

It's not just parents who feel the pain. A co-owner of a Chinese toy company that makes many of the recalled Fisher-Price toys committed suicide in his company's warehouse. This happened only days after Chinese officials temporarily banned the company from exporting products. His co-workers described his act as "unbearable losses" from the toy recall.

So what should parents do? The U.S. Public Interest Research Group advises parents to stick to common sense, such as keeping toys with small parts away from children. And what is Mattel's plan to keep children safe? According to the press release on their Web site, Mattel is working with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, other regulatory agencies and retailers worldwide to identify and remove affected products.

For more information on Mattel toy recalls, go to AOL News and search for Mattel recall on AOL Search.

Brad Pitt Who?

The same names always come to mind when we talk about hot male celebrities: Brad Pitt, George Clooney, Tom Cruise, etc. But lately, no one's talking about these guys. There's only so much Brangelina and Tomkat news that people can take.

Zac EfronSo who's the male celeb that people have been crazy about? Zac Efron, of course! He stars in the hit TV movie 'High School Musical' and he makes teens and tweens go gaga. The show's got record-breaking soundtrack, packed concerts and all kinds of merchandising items, from a stationery set to a DVD board game. Oh, by the way, I just heard that Disney will also have 'High School Musical on Ice' this fall.

You think this is cheesy? Think again ... 'High School Musical' has contributed $1 billion to Disney in profits since launch according to Soleil-Media Metrics. That profit includes sales of 7.8 million DVDs, 7 million CDs, 4.5 million books, sold-out 45-city concerts and hundreds of million of dollars of merchandise sales and let's not forget royalties.

Back to Zac Efron, what is it about this 20-year-old star that make tweens and teens swoon? Let me see, he has an adorable face, he dances, he sings and parents love him for his squeaky clean image. Oh yeah, some dub him as the new John Travolta.

It seems that Zac is everywhere these days -- he stars as Link Larkin in the movie 'Hairspray' and he's back in 'High School Musical 2,' which premieres on Friday, August 17, on the Disney channel. So if you've never heard of Zac before, you'd better start paying attention and get ready to swoon!

Top Searched States for Foreclosures

ForeclosureWith the housing market cooling off, I've been hearing more about foreclosures lately. The National Association of Realtors reported that existing and new home prices decreased by 1.1% and 2.6% respectively year over year for the second quarter of 2007.

I definitely see that trend in my neighborhood. There's a house around the corner that has been on the market for almost a year. It's a nice house, but the owners haven't lowered their price. Two other homeowners in the area sought lower prices and their houses were sold in less than two weeks. I was thinking about moving this year, but I've put that plan on hold.

It's sad to read about people who are forced to foreclose because they can't afford their mortgage payments. I did a search for foreclosure to find foreclosure homes and most Web sites have at least 1 million properties listed. RealtyTrac reported in late July 2007 that the number of foreclosure properties in the increased by 58 percent from the first half of 2006 to the first half of 2007. California, Florida, Texas and Ohio have the largest foreclosure totals.

The increase in foreclosures and defaults is largely tied to people with adjustable rate mortgages and subprime loans. The Mortgage Bankers Association reported that high numbers of foreclosures in Florida, Nevada, California and Arizona are caused by speculators who walk away from their properties since home prices have fallen in those states.

I hope you're not one of the unlucky home owners who have to put your home up for foreclosure. For help in this area, search for prevent foreclosure. On the flip side, if you are in the market for a house, then foreclosure may be a great option for you. Check out AOL Real Estate and search for foreclosure homes on AOL Search to find foreclosure listings.

Britney and Jim Carrey Look-A-Like

Britney SpearsRemember when Britney Spears first came out in the late 90's? She had a somewhat innocent, sweet school girl image. Yeah, you do, don't deny it. You probably know all of her earlier songs by heart, too, from 'Hit Me Baby One More Time' to 'Oops, I Did It Again.' But can you name her later songs? Me neither!

Regardless of her singing career, Britney has always been in the spotlight. The latest news is her crazy party in LA after shooting a music video as reported by Us Weekly. A 21-year-old college student who was an extra from her video shoot reported that Britney played topless truth and dare and gave him a smooch. By the way, the guy reminds me of Jim Carrey from his 'Ace Ventura: Pet Detective' days -- if you don't believe me, just check out his picture on TMZ.com.

Let me just say (I can't believe I'm defending her) that Britney is single, so let her party like crazy. Yes, she's a mom, but she needs to have fun, too!

One Sweet Celebrity

Celebrity world is definitely unpredictable. One celebrity is all everyone talks about in a week, but then the following week another celebrity takes the spotlight. Last week, Lindsay Lohan was allover the news and was number 2 in our top searched celebrities. This week, Lindsay is not even in the top ten of our top searched celebrities! Are people just getting sick of her?

Miley CyrusOh well, moving on to another celebrity ... 15-year-old Miley Cyrus. Yes, she's adorable. Yes, her TV show 'Hannah Montana' is a hit. No wonder people want to know more about her. I just read a funny post on TMZ.com about her dad's CD signing event in suburban LA, where fans cried at the event. It's not because Billy Ray Cyrus is back in Billboard 200's top 20 after 14 years, but because Miley wasn't there. Yeah, I'd cry, too, if I see Billy Ray Cyrus' bad haircut in person. And what's with the soul patch?

More on Miley's star power, Disney recently launched a clothing line inspired by 'Hannah Montana.' Sold in Wal-Mart, the clothes are sweet and sparkly, just like Hannah. Great idea, parents will love these clothes since they're not revealing and they're affordable. Plus, did you know that there will be 'Hannah Montana' games available on Wii and Nintendo DS this Fall? Too cute! Let's just hope that Disney doesn't come out with a clothing line inspired by the elder Cyrus.

By the way, I don't know why I'm bashing Billy Ray Cyrus today -- I'm sure he's a good guy and I enjoyed his performance on 'Dancing with the Stars.' Probably because I still have nightmares about 'Achy Breaky Heart.' That's up on my list as songs that I should forget about, with 'Macarena' taking the top spot.

Top Searched Antidepressants

I did a post on top searched health conditions that you don't talk about a little while ago and depression was the No. 1 searched condition. Depression is no joke. According to Mental Health America, approximately 15 percent of people hospitalized for depression eventually take their own lives.

They also state that depression is a common condition in the U.S. More than 19 million Americans have clinical depression. More interestingly, one in eight teens and one in 33 children have clinical depression. Now that's scary.

I was also surprised to read on their Web site that less than half of those who suffer from depression seek treatment. People who don't seek treatment generally feel embarrassed or view it as a personal weakness rather than an illness. The good news is, depression is treatable -- 80 percent of people who seek treatment show improvement.

So for the post today, I've listed the top searched antidepressants on AOL Search. It seems that I see at least several ads a day for antidepressants (maybe I just read too many health articles!) and I'm sure you do, too. Before taking any medication, especially for a serious condition, you should always do your research.

You can read more about depression on AOL Body and search for depression treatment on AOL Search.

Finding the Best Deals Online

Online couponsLately, it has been taking me twice as long to shop online. I'm not new to online shopping -- I buy about 80 percent of my clothes, accessories and household items online for years now.

What's taking up my time when shopping online is my stubbornness to find the best deals. Before I finalize my purchase online, I always compare prices on different sites and search for coupons with the highest discounts. Call me a cheapskate, but I have saved hundreds of dollars or maybe even thousands ... I really should start keeping track of my savings!

The reason that I've been able to find the best deals online is I'm not loyal to any one site. I visit multiple price comparison sites and I actively search for online coupon codes. I generally search for a specific retailer's coupons, such as J. Crew coupons, and then browse various sites to find the highest discounts. Sometimes it's frustrating when the coupon code has expired or if it only works if you have the retailer's credit card, but to me it's worth it.

Shop onlineThere are sites that give success rates and display comments from consumers. It still doesn't save me any time, however, since I try every single coupon code. Even when there's a disclaimer that "coupon cannot be combined with other offers," I still try all of the coupon codes. Hey, you just never know.

When I first saw the top searched coupons on AOL that are listed below, I didn't even think about grocery coupons before. Probably because I never follow my grocery list at the store and I'm loyal to certain brands when it comes to food. I'll give it a try, though. I'd rather spend my money on designer jeans than food, for sure!

So are you a proud cheapskate, too? Do you always have to find the best deals online before buying anything?

Give Lindsay and Paris Some Love

Lindsay LohanLindsay Lohan hasn't gotten a lot of love lately. First, she was arrested earlier this week for DUI and cocaine possession. Second, her father was ordered by a judge to pay child support and show proof that he's been trying to get a job. Seriously, Lindsay doesn't need the child support money, but I guess it's more of a principle. Finally, critics have been blasting her latest movie, 'I Know Who Killed Me.' I didn't even know she was in a movie!

I miss the cute Lindsay Lohan in 'The Parent Trap.' That's still one of my favorite feel-good movies of all time. Every time I watch that movie, I can't believe how innocent little Lindsay looked. I guess all girls have to grow up.

Paris HiltonMoving on to another celebrity who's gotten in trouble with the law several times ... Paris Hilton is to star in a musical film. Not just any musical film, but an opera! What? Yeah, I know. This should be interesting. Can she really sing the opera? Her 'Stars Are Blind' made it to the top charts last summer, but I doubt it's because of her singing ability.

Her new movie, 'Repo! The Genetic Opera' is directed by Darren Lynn Bousman, director of the 'Saw' movies. This is not Paris' first acting gig in a thriller. Remember her in 'House of Wax?' If not, that's okay, her character dies in the beginning of the movie. Maybe she'll make herself known as a horror movie actress instead of an heiress. Go ahead and roll your eyes, but Bousman told Variety that he "auditioned at least 30 actresses for this role -- Paris came in and owned it. She is this role." I am at a loss for words.

For more celebrity news, check out TMZ.com and search for your favorite celebrities on AOL Search, such as Fergie and Beyoncé.

1. Fergie -- In the top charts with 'Big Girls Don't Cry.'
2. Lindsay Lohan -- New movie flops.

Top Searched Franchise Opportunities

I'm sure owning your own business is something that you've thought about before. Why wouldn't you? Being your own boss is a big incentive.

I have an acquaintance who has a full-time job, but his entrepreneurial spirit leads him to own several businesses in addition to his regular job. I believe one of them is a walnut producing company. Don't laugh, but that's a great business -- walnuts are great for people on low-carb diets and these diets don't seem to fade in popularity. He also owns at least one restaurant franchise, and last time I talked to him, he was looking into another franchise business.

If I ever have my own business, it'll be something with dogs. I just want to play with dogs all day long! I know there's so much more to do than playing with dogs all day long, but hey, I can always dream.

Anyway, if you need ideas on starting your own business, buying a franchise is a popular option. According to a study by PricewaterhouseCoopers, there are more than 760,000 franchise businesses in the U.S. These franchise businesses provide more than 18 million jobs with over $1.5 trillion in economic output.

Check out the top 10 searched franchise opportunities on AOL below. It's not surprising that most of them are in the food service industry, but it's refreshing to see a fitness business listed in the top 10. I hope more health-related franchise businesses soar so we all get motivated to exercise and eat healthy instead of muching on an oversized burger. As for the number one searched franchise opportunity, no wonder there's seemingly a Starbucks store in every corner of a city!

If you own a franchise business, which industry is it in? Any recommendations for other entrepreneurs who are thinking about buying one?

2. Subway franchise

Bear is Not So Wild

Have you ever watched the show 'Man vs. Wild' on Discovery Channel? If you have or if you're a fan, I'm sorry to say this, but the show's host is not so wild anyway.

If you've never heard of 'Man vs. Wild,' it's a survival reality TV show. I've seen several episodes and it is definitely interesting. The host, Bear Grylls, puts himself in dangerous situations and shows viewers how to survive them. For example, there's an episode where he's a lost tourist in Australia. He has to build a shelter in the middle of a lightning storm and faces deadly crocodiles. By the way, one of his survival advice is to drink your own urine.

It turns out that Grylls is a big fake. He's supposed to be spending his nights outdoors during filming, but on some occasions, he stayed in a lodge or a motel instead. Mark Weinert, a consultant for the show, told The London Times that Grylls spent some nights at the Pines Resort while filming an episode in the Sierra Nevada mountains. It's a lodge that overlook Bass Lake, northeast of Fresno, California, complete with amenities such as an award-winning restaurant and spa services.

For now, Discovery Channel has no intention to cancel the show or to fire Grylls. "Moving forward, the program will be 100% transparent and all elements of the filming will be explained upfront to our viewers. In addition, shows that are to be repeated will be edited appropriately. Bear Grylls is a world-class adventurer and a terrific talent," the company stated.

Well, I'm sure if viewers stop watching the show, then Discovery Channel may need to do some rethinking. Or maybe the show has more viewers now that the story is out in public. There's no such thing as bad PR, right?

For more about the show, check out AOL Television or search for 'Man vs. Wild' on AOL Search.

Hot, Hot, Hot Celebrities!

Zac EfronHow hot is this summer? Just look at the latest Hot Celebrity Searches on AOL: Zac Efron, David Beckham, Jessica Biel ... you get the point.

Did you know that Zac Efron almost didn't make the cut for a role in 'Hairspray?' Neither did I. I haven't seen 'Hairspray' yet, but he seems like he's the right fit for that role. He sings, he dances, he's cute and he's already got a fan base with the hit TV series 'High School Musical.' What could go wrong?

Apparently, 'Hairspray' director/choreographer Adam Shankman thought that Efron was "too light" and that he's a "sweet, goofy kid" according to USA Today. Well, good thing Shankman gave Efron a chance ... I'm sure a lot of teenage girls ran to the movie theaters to see Efron in his first big screen role. Released on Friday, 'Hairpsray' grossed at $27.8 million this past weekend according to Box Office Mojo. That's just third behind 'I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry' and 'Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix' for the weekend gross. Not bad in my opinion!

David BeckhamAnother hot celeb who got a lot of attention this weekend was David Beckham. Beckham had his MLS debut where he played for 16 minutes and 19 seconds. Let's hope that he'll play more considering he has a $6.5 million contract.

There's no doubt that he's a star off the field -- the man is hot, even for me who prefers brunettes to blondes. However, there have been some debates if his playing in the MLS will make Americans more interested in soccer. Well, the Galaxy vs. Chelsea game was sold out. That's always a good sign.

His debut also drew a crowd of celebrities to the game. His wive, Victoria Beckham, was there of course with gal pal Katie Holmes and daughter Suri. Also there were Jennifer Love Hewitt, Drew Carey, Eva Longoria and the Governator. OK, with all of this attention from celebrities, maybe Americans will start watching soccer. It's about time we fall in love with this global sport!

Is Michael Vick Guilty?

These past few days have been very upsetting for me. Between the 'Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows' leak and the Michael Vick's indictment, where do I begin?

Harry Potter and the Deathly HallowsFirst, the 'Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows' fiasco. The ending was leaked on the Web and DeepDiscount.com released the book early. Of course Scholastic, publisher of the 'Harry Potter' series, plans legal action against the distributor, Levy Home Entertainment, and DeepDiscount.com. It's also trying to identify the Internet user who leaked the book on the Web.

Scholastic estimated that the books that went our early are about one-hundredth of one percent of the total books to go on sale in the U.S. OK, it's really not that much if you look at this number, but I'm still upset, as are other 'Harry Potter' fans. I myself pre-ordered my book from a different online retailer and I won't be getting the book until the official release date. So between now and then, I've tried to steer away from any possible news or stories that may reveal the book ending. Sigh...

Michael VickSecond, the Michael Vick fiasco. As a Virginia Tech alumna and a dog lover, I'm completely disgusted and embarrassed. I thought Marcus Vick was the bad one in the family ... I guess I was wrong! It breaks my heart reading about what Vick has allegedly done.

According to the indictment, Vick runs Bad Newz Kennels out of his property in Surry County, Virginia, for dogfighting. Dogs that did not perform well as fighters were executed by methods such as hanging, drowning, electrocution, shooting and beating. There are other sickening things that he allegedly did to the dogs, but I won't go there -- they'll just make me weep.

If Vick is found guilty, my hopes are he doesn't get to play in the NFL anymore and he gets all the punishment that he deserves. Last I read he may face up to 6 years in prison plus $350,000 in fines if found guilty. Is that enough?

Have a Fun & Safe Trip!

When you travel, what do you take with you? Are you a light packer and take just the bare minimum? Or are you the kind of traveler who can't bear leaving the house without your own hair dryer, toiletries, etc.? With me, I think I'm somewhat in the middle. I have some items that I must have whenever I travel, but I can work with whatever toiletries are provided at the hotel. Plus, I'd rather save room in my luggage for local souvenirs!

I always have my iPod video, books and magazines to keep me entertained while I'm on the road or on a plane. In case something happens, I make sure to have my travel documentations in both original and copies so I can pack them in multiple places. Also, anything related to health such as sunscreen, insect repellent, bandages, aspirin and antacids are must-haves for me -- in travel size, of course!

Another must-have for me is my carry-on luggage when I travel by air. My checked-in luggage was left behind in Narita Airport in Tokyo once. Good thing I had my carry-on with me, so the next two days without my big luggage weren't so bad. Oh, and now, I always make sure to have travel insurance when I travel. An airplane company (sorry, I'm not naming any names) lost my luggage on my way to Curacao, but one quick call to my travel insurance company put my vacation back on the happiness track. I got a $1,000 shopping spree from my insurance company to replace my missing items. Nice!

Anyway, traveling is fun, but not when you have to deal with missing luggage or sickness. So for today, I thought I'd list top searched travel essentials for safety to give you some ideas on what to take with you on your trip. Is there anything else that you think should've made the list?
